چکیده
Electrical-discharge machining (EDM) of advanced ceramics allows the miniaturization parts with complex shapes. Since electrical conductivity is required, non-conductive need a conductive second phase. This work assesses feasibility industrial EDM in yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (3YTZP) composites 20 vol% graphene nanostructures different morphology using energies. The structural integrity nanostructures, roughness machined surfaces and geometrical tolerances have been evaluated by Raman spectroscopy, confocal microscopy scanning electron microscopy, showing that it possible to obtain stable efficient process these low electrode use largest thickest led best performance terms machinability, smallest produced surface finish for energy thinnest allowed highest material removal rate at medium composites.

Radiation Tolerance of Nanocrystalline Ceramics: Insights from Yttria Stabilized Zirconia
Materials for applications in hostile environments, such as nuclear reactors or radioactive waste immobilization, require extremely high resistance to radiation damage, such as resistance to amorphization or volume swelling. Nanocrystalline materials have been reported to present exceptionally high radiation-tolerance to amorphization. In principle, grain boundaries that are prevalent in nanoma...
متن کاملInfluence of Electrical Resistivity and Machining Parameters on Electrical Discharge Machining Performance of Engineering Ceramics
Engineering ceramics have been widely used in modern industry for their excellent physical and mechanical properties, and they are difficult to machine owing to their high hardness and brittleness. Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is the appropriate process for machining engineering ceramics provided they are electrically conducting. However, the electrical resistivity of the popular engine...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulations of yttria-stabilized zirconia
Oxygen diffusion in the oxygen ionic conductor yttria-stabilized zirconia is investigated by means of the molecular dynamics simulation technique. Oxygen ions migrate by means of a discrete hopping process, mainly between neighbouring tetrahedral sites. Diffusion appears to occur in a short time and a long time regime. Only when the oxygen ions have moved over distances much larger than the cha...

Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) has been proven to be an excellent candidate as a thermal barrier coating (TBe) for hot sections in, for instance, heat or internal combustion engines and gas turbine parts. The main functions of these coatings are reducing heat losses, reducing fuel consumption, increasing efficiency, and extending durability and life. One of the main problems involved is we...
